Gospel Music Should Be Led By God, Not Audience Praise – Nii Kwei
Ghanaian gospel artiste Godfred Kwei Blankson, popularly known as Nii Kwei, has urged fellow musicians to remain steadfast in their divine calling, stressing that true gospel ministry is led by God’s direction rather than the applause of the public.

In an interview with Graphic Showbiz on Monday, August 25, Nii Kwei cautioned that paying too much attention to criticism can easily distract artistes from their core mission.
“Criticism is like noise; everyone will face it, but you shouldn’t let it sway you. What matters is listening to your inner spirit, which is God. Whatever He tells you to do, that is what you should follow,” he said.
The gospel singer, who released his latest single Wayɛ Ewie on August 15, outlined three guiding principles of his ministry: love, consistency, and intentionality.

According to him, love remains the foundation of his work. “If you have God, you have love; and with love, you have everything. My ministry is rooted in love it reflects in my outreach and interactions,” he explained.
He further described consistency as key to maintaining relevance in ministry and intentionality as the force that drives him to step out of his comfort zone, break barriers, and remain purposeful in his music and outreach.
On the challenges facing gospel musicians, Nii Kwei pointed out that funding remains a major obstacle. He explained that while audiences often see artistes shining on stage, they rarely grasp the sacrifices, stress, and financial demands behind music production and event organization.

“Music requires money. Nobody should deceive you. If you stay true to your calling and consistent, God will make a way in time,” he assured.
Reflecting on his personal journey, Nii Kwei revealed that he views challenges as opportunities for growth rather than setbacks.
“I don’t dwell on the past. Instead, I ask myself what lesson I can learn from every situation. That mindset has helped me turn difficulties into stepping stones,” he added.
