Gospel Artiste, Ewura Abena Calls for more Performance Slots for Gospel Musicians at VGMAs
24th VGMA Nominee, Ewura Abena has called for more performance slots for Gospel Musicians at Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.
In an interview with Odi Ahenkan Kwame Yeboah on Sunday’s “After Church Show” of Accra-based radio station Peace fm, gospel singer Ewura Abena stated that it’s about time the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards’ organizers recognized the need to give more performance slots to gospel musicians, just as they do for the secular artists.
Gospel musicians may also play exceptionally well when given the chance, says the “This Far” hitmaker. The organizers may believe that providing gospel musicians more performance opportunities will make their event a failure, but we are just as capable of performing brilliantly and energizing the audience as non-religious performers.
She insisted that it couldn’t only be few minutes for the gospel artistes and the rest going to the secular artistes.
Mr. Kwesi Ernest, a music executive and the CEO of Media Excel, has also entered the discussion to weigh in on the matter. The unfair treatment of gospel artists, in Mr. Ernest’s opinion, must end.
The gospel fraternity is large, and the VGMA organizers cannot offer them only 7 minutes to perform while the remainder of the program performances are allocated to the secular artists, according to an interview with Abeiku Santana on Okay fm on Monday 8th may, 2023.
