In an interview, the celebrated gospel minister recounted a difficult season in his life when he battled depression, spending long hours locked away in his office, overwhelmed by personal struggles.

He revealed that at his lowest point, he even considered taking his own life. However, the thought of his six young children gave him the strength to push through.
“I battled depression for almost six months. Sometimes, I would sit in my office for 12 hours with the lights off, refusing to speak to anyone. It was really bad, but during that time, I wrote a song. The thought of harming myself crossed my mind once or twice. But the thought of my six children so young and needing me gave me hope,” he recalled.
Sonnie Badu explained that financial pressure also worsened his condition, as he struggled with bills after purchasing a home in the U.S. He added that prayer, counselling, and the divine intervention of Rev. Eastwood Anaba were instrumental in his healing.

“Rev. Eastwood was the one God used to redeem me,” he said.
The “Baba” hitmaker recently opened up about the lack of support he received from some colleagues in the gospel fraternity after sustaining an injury ahead of his 2023 Grand Arena concert.
Looking ahead, Sonnie Badu is preparing for this year’s Rhythms of Africa concert, scheduled for Friday, November 29, 2025, at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).
