Gift Will Open Doors But, Character Will Keep You There – Joe Mettle Urges Musicians

Ghanaian gospel musician Joe Mettle has shared powerful lessons on success and growth with participants of the Band Experience Music Workshop held in Manchester, UK, on June 22, 2024.

Speaking virtually to the gathering of musicians and music lovers from diverse genres, Joe Mettle emphasized that while talent is important, character is what sustains long-term success in the industry.

“Gift is important, but gift alone is not enough. You need to improve on the gift God has given you by gaining more knowledge and learning from others. But beyond that, character is necessary. You can be very gifted, but without character, people will find it difficult to work with you,” he noted.

He encouraged upcoming musicians to develop integrity, humility, and discipline alongside their artistic skills, pointing out that talent may open doors, but character is what keeps opportunities alive.

“Sometimes the gift will open the door for you, but it is character that will keep you there. If you always find yourself losing opportunities because of how you react or behave, maybe it’s time to re-examine your character,” he advised.

Joe Mettle concluded by reminding participants that success in music requires a balance of skill, professionalism, and personal growth.
