Gifty Oware-Mensah, who also serves as the Deputy Executive Director of the NSS, has been implicated in a scandal involving the insertion of approximately 40,000 ghost names into the NSS payroll. This fraudulent activity is alleged to have resulted in a financial loss of over GHS 500 million to the state.
Reports indicate that Oware-Mensah has left the country amidst these allegations, leading to calls from various stakeholders for her arrest and prosecution. The gravity of the situation has prompted the GFA to consider holding emergency elections to fill the vacant Executive Council position.
The NSS ghost names scandal has drawn widespread condemnation, with many Ghanaians demanding accountability and swift action against those involved. The alleged scheme involved the payment of allowances to non-existent service personnel over an extended period, resulting in substantial financial losses for the government.
As the investigation continues, the GFA aims to maintain its operational integrity by promptly addressing the vacancy on its Executive Council. The association is expected to announce the date and procedures for the emergency elections in the coming days.
