GFA Congress Approves Three-Term Limit For President
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially amended its statutes to extend the term limit for its leadership from two to three terms. The change was approved during the Association’s 31st Ordinary Congress held on Tuesday, August 12, 2025.

Explaining the decision, GFA General Secretary Prosper Harrison Addo noted that the revision to Article 37.4 was made to align with FIFA’s governance model.
“On Article 37.4, which addresses term limits, we agree with the proposal but strongly recommend aligning it with the FIFA model,” Addo stated, before outlining the revised provisions.
Under the new rule, the mandate of the president, vice presidents, and Executive Council members will last four years, following the same electoral cycle. Terms will begin immediately after the Congress that elects them and end at the Congress where their successors are chosen.

No individual may serve as president for more than three terms, whether consecutive or not. The same applies to vice presidents and other Executive Council members.
This change means that, if re-elected, the president and council members can serve for a maximum of 12 years, bringing Ghana’s football administration in line with international governance standards.
