To ensure the safety of consumers and fuel station personnel during extended hours, the NPA is collaborating with various security agencies, including the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), the Police, Customs, and the Fire Service. This partnership seeks to address potential security challenges such as fuel smuggling, illegal siphoning, and other criminal activities associated with the petroleum sector.
Mr. Tameklo emphasized the importance of strict regulation and enforcement to protect the petroleum downstream industry from criminal activities. He highlighted that fuel, being a valuable commodity, is often targeted for illicit activities, making the role of security agencies crucial in combating fuel-related crimes.
Additionally, the NPA plans to provide specialized training programs for security personnel to enhance their capacity in tackling petroleum-related offenses. This initiative underscores the Authority’s commitment to ensuring the highest levels of safety and security in the petroleum sector.
The move towards 24-hour fuel station operations is part of the broader governmental strategy to promote a 24-hour economy, aiming to boost economic activities and provide continuous services to the public. The success of this initiative heavily relies on the robust support and collaboration of security agencies to maintain safety standards and prevent illegal activities in the petroleum industry.
