Fuel Prices Expected To Fall This Christmas – Oil Marketers Board Chair Gives Assurance
Ghanaians may see notable reductions in petrol, diesel, and LPG prices by mid-December, thanks to declining global petroleum prices and a relatively stable local currency.
According to Gabriel Kumi, Board Chairman of the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC), consumers should expect cheaper fuel ahead of the Christmas season as international market indicators point clearly toward price drops.
Speaking on PM Express Business Edition, Kumi revealed that current trends already show significant decreases across major petroleum products—diesel prices have fallen by about 10%, petrol by roughly 6%, and LPG by between 1% and 1.5%.
“Fortunately, Ghanaians are going to have a very good Christmas in terms of petroleum prices, because already the indication is that the price of finished petroleum products is going down,” he said.

He further explained that the extent of local price reductions will depend heavily on the stability of the Ghana cedi. “If the cedi is held in check, then we can be sure that on the 16th of December, prices of petroleum products will generally go down,” he noted, adding that the second pricing window—which falls within the festive period—may bring even more relief.
The expected decline in fuel prices provides welcome relief for households and businesses during the holiday season, helping to ease financial pressure at a time when expenses typically rise.
