Former BoG Governor Ernest Addison’s Residence Allegedly Raided By Armed Men, Raising Security Concerns
On March 19, 2025, at approximately 5 a.m., a group of heavily armed men, reportedly led by Richard Jakpa, Director of Operations at the National Security Secretariat, raided the Roman Ridge residence of former Bank of Ghana (BoG) Governor, Dr. Ernest Addison.

The operatives, numbering about 20 and including approximately 15 soldiers, arrived in three vehicles and forcibly entered the premises. They disabled the CCTV system and demanded that Dr. Addison reveal supposed “vaults” within the house. Dr. Addison denied the existence of any such vaults or cash reserves. Despite this, the operatives conducted a thorough search, leaving the property in disarray.
They seized four vehicles, leaving only two behind, and confiscated the CCTV monitor and control unit. Later that evening, the family was instructed to retrieve the seized vehicles from a location opposite Jokers Club in Labadi.
This incident has raised significant security concerns, especially as it follows a similar raid on February 11, 2025, at the residence of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta. In that case, 12 individuals, including nine military personnel, allegedly entered Mr. Ofori-Atta’s home without a warrant while he was abroad for medical treatment. He reported that the raid caused distress to his household staff and damaged his reputation.
In response to the raid on Dr. Addison’s residence, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin visited the former BoG Governor to express solidarity and concern over the incident.
These consecutive incidents involving high-profile former officials have sparked discussions about the conduct of security operatives and the potential implications for the safety and rights of citizens.
