Family Of Late Gospel Icon Yaw Sarpong Visits Tourism Ministry
The family of the late gospel musician Yaw Sarpong, led by MUSIGA President Bessa Simons, paid a courtesy call on the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts to officially inform the Sector Minister, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, about his passing and to communicate details of his funeral arrangements.
During the meeting, Dzifa Gomashie expressed profound sadness over the loss, describing Yaw Sarpong as a celebrated gospel legend whose music brought spiritual inspiration to many Ghanaians. She noted that his contributions to Ghana’s creative arts industry would be remembered for generations to come.

On behalf of the Government, the Ministry, and the creative arts community, she extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.
The meeting was attended by key ministry officials, including the Director for Culture and Creative Arts as well as the Director of Finance and Administration.

Yaw Sarpong passed away on January 20, 2026, in Kumasi at the age of 66. He was widely respected for his significant impact on Ghana’s gospel music scene, particularly through the Asomafo Band, whose uplifting songs shaped Christian worship across different generations.
