The disconnection occurred on Tuesday, June 17, as ECG’s task force ramped up efforts to recover debts owed by both state institutions and private entities.
ECG officials explained that the exercise, which targets indebted public institutions, is aimed at addressing long-standing issues of non-payment and ensuring the financial health of the country’s power sector.
Following the action at GWL, the task force proceeded to the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), which was also disconnected over unpaid arrears amounting to GH¢3,153,484.98.
According to ECG, GBC had failed to honour a previously agreed structured payment plan, prompting the disconnection.
