Earthquake Strikes Hollywood As Celebrities Gather For Oscars Afterparties
On Sunday, March 2, 2025, at approximately 10:13 p.m. local time, a 3.9-magnitude earthquake struck the North Hollywood area of Los Angeles, coinciding with post-Academy Awards celebrations.
The tremor’s epicenter was located about 1.3 miles west-northwest of North Hollywood, affecting nearby communities such as Universal City and Studio City.
The earthquake occurred shortly after the conclusion of the 97th Academy Awards, held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. Despite the proximity, there were no immediate reports of significant damage or injuries, and the Los Angeles Fire Department did not enter “earthquake mode.”
Notably, the shaking was captured during a live stream of the Vanity Fair afterparty at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills, approximately four miles from the Dolby Theatre.
The earthquake was felt across various parts of Los Angeles, including Pasadena, Long Beach, the San Fernando Valley, Torrance, Redondo Beach, and Glendale. However, the United States Geological Survey reported that the shaking ranged from weak to light, with some areas, such as San Bernardino, experiencing no impact.
This incident is part of a series of seismic activities in California, following recent earthquakes in regions like Malibu and Northern California.
