DStv Faces Suspension On August 7 Over High Prices – Sam George
Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has directed the National Communications Authority (NCA) to suspend the broadcasting licence of MultiChoice-owned DStv if it fails to reduce its subscription prices by August 7, 2025.

The directive follows MultiChoice’s refusal to lower prices despite the recent appreciation of the Ghanaian cedi. This comes after a high-level meeting with DStv officials on July 4, prompted by public outcry over high subscription costs.
In a detailed response, MultiChoice argued that the cedi’s gains were temporary and cited a long-term depreciation of over 200%. However, Mr. George rejected this justification, insisting the government would not allow price rigidity that exploits consumers.

“My duty is to the Ghanaian people. I cannot stand by while they’re being overcharged,” the Minister said during a briefing on August 1.
He confirmed that a formal directive has been issued to the NCA to revoke DStv’s licence if prices are not adjusted, describing the current pricing model as “plain stealing.”
Public pressure continues to mount, with many demanding immediate regulatory action to make pay-TV services more affordable.
