On February 17, 2025, a Delta Connection flight from Minneapolis to Toronto experienced a horrifying crash landing at Toronto Pearson International Airport. The incident unfolded at approximately 2:15 PM ET during challenging weather conditions. Strong wind gusts, reported to exceed 50 km/h, are believed to have played a significant role in the crash. Eyewitnesses described a terrifying scene as the plane skidded along the runway before coming to rest upside down, smoke billowing from its fuselage. Emergency response teams were quick to act, evacuating passengers and extinguishing a fire that broke out shortly after the crash.

While there were no fatalities, 19 people were injured in the accident. Two adults remain in critical condition and are receiving care at trauma centers, while a child was transported to a pediatric hospital for further treatment. The remaining passengers were treated for minor injuries and shock at local medical facilities.

The crash forced the temporary closure of Toronto Pearson International Airport, disrupting over 200 flights and stranding thousands of travelers. Authorities have since reopened the airport, but delays and cancellations continue to affect operations.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada has launched a full investigation into the crash, working alongside the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board and Delta Airlines. Early reports suggest no abnormalities in the plane’s communication with air traffic control prior to landing. Investigators are now focusing on the aircraft’s systems, the crew’s actions, and the impact of the adverse weather conditions.

Delta Airlines issued a statement expressing relief that all passengers and crew survived the incident. The airline has pledged full cooperation with investigators and is working to provide support to those affected. “Safety remains our top priority,” the statement read.

This incident comes amid heightened scrutiny of aviation safety following several high-profile air travel accidents in recent months. Calls are growing for airlines to strengthen safety protocols and improve responses to extreme weather events.

As the investigation unfolds, this crash will undoubtedly reignite discussions about the measures needed to ensure the safety of air travel in increasingly unpredictable weather conditions.
