Deliver Or Step Down – President Mahama Warns Underperforming Ministers
President John Dramani Mahama has delivered a strong message to his ministerial appointees, making it clear that underperformance will not be accepted in his government. He called on ministers to meet the demands of their roles, produce tangible results, and live up to the expectations of Ghanaians — or make way for others who will.
Speaking at the launch of a four-day Executive Leadership Programme for Ministerial Appointees — organized in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) — the President set a decisive tone. The retreat, which commenced today in Accra, brought together cabinet officials, private sector leaders, and development partners to promote effective and accountable governance.

“You were not appointed just to fill seats. You were chosen to tackle problems,” President Mahama asserted. “The people of Ghana expect performance, not excuses — and that’s what we must deliver.”
He stressed that the programme was not merely an orientation, but a pivotal step toward reshaping leadership attitudes, moving away from outdated practices and embracing bold, responsible governance.
“The business-as-usual mindset has no place here. It is obsolete — and it’s time we buried it for good,” the President declared to resounding applause.
President Mahama also underscored the urgency of addressing the mounting frustrations of citizens, particularly among the youth, farmers, and small business owners who have waited too long for real change.
“Our young people are weary of endless delays. Our farmers, workers, and entrepreneurs deserve to live in dignity and thrive,” he said.
In concluding his address, the President reinforced his no-nonsense approach to leadership and performance.
“Let it be known — if anyone fails to meet the mark, I will not hesitate to take action,” he warned.
