Current Government Becoming Increasingly Intolerant – Afenyo-Markin
Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has accused the current government of growing intolerance, alleging deliberate efforts to intimidate political opponents.
Speaking to the press outside the National Investigations Bureau (NIB), where supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) gathered in solidarity with party activist Alfred Kumi Ababio, Afenyo-Markin voiced serious concerns over the government’s treatment of dissenting voices.
He contrasted the current climate with that under the previous administration, saying the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) was able to criticize the Akufo-Addo government without facing harassment — a freedom he claims is now lacking.
“The NDC criticized the former government without intimidation, but now that they are in power, they seem unable to tolerate similar scrutiny,” he stated.

Afenyo-Markin further noted that National Security is still investigating the case involving Alfred Kumi Ababio and will announce the next steps in due course. Ababio remains in custody but has access to legal representation.
In a related development, NPP General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua urged National Security to adhere to due process and expedite the timely release of Ababio.
