Comm. Minister Demands 30% Price Reduction From DStv, Awaits Reply By July 21
The notable appreciation of the Ghanaian cedi and growing public dissatisfaction with DStv subscription costs have prompted the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Hon. Samuel Nartey George (MP), to call on Multichoice Ghana to slash its prices by 30%.

During a meeting held today with a DStv delegation led by Dr. Keabetswe Modimoeng, Group Executive for Regulatory and Corporate Affairs, the Minister emphasized that government has a duty to respond to the grievances of Ghanaians, who have expressed frustration over high subscription fees and outdated content offerings.
Hon. Nartey George noted that despite a 30% gain in the cedi’s value over the past five months, DStv pricing has not reflected the positive economic shift. He urged Multichoice to align its rates with the improved exchange rate and pass the financial benefits on to consumers.
While acknowledging DStv’s recent promotional packages, the Minister made it clear that subscribers would prefer a permanent price cut rather than short-term deals.

He also highlighted feedback from public forums indicating that many viewers find DStv’s content stale and lacking variety beyond Premier League football making the current subscription rates seem unjustified.
Multichoice Ghana has until July 21 to formally respond to the government’s request. The Minister expects a clear proposal by that date to pave the way for further stakeholder engagement before the end of the month.
