In a recent interview, she revealed that her former record label, Universal Music Group, initially opposed the release of her song “Ojorley” because it was entirely in the Ga language, which they believed wouldn’t be relatable to a broader audience. Despite their reservations, Cina Soul decided to release the track independently, and it garnered significant acclaim. Reflecting on this decision, she stated, “I just felt this conviction about this song. So I just did it, and it paid off.”
Addressing the prevalent issue of “sex for help” in the entertainment industry, Cina Soul asserted that she has never encountered such situations in her career. She attributes this to the supportive environment she operates in, stating, “Maybe it is because of the environment I find myself.
In terms of her creative process, Cina Soul has shifted her focus towards producing more music rather than solely aiming for hits. She explained that earlier in her career, she would overthink each song, leading to fewer releases. Now, inspired by male artists who release music consistently without overanalyzing, she aims to create and share more songs, regardless of their commercial success. This approach has led to collaborations like “Too Bad” with Sarkodie and O’Kenneth, and “Suloli” with Olivetheboy.
Cina Soul’s candid responses highlight her resilience and commitment to her artistic vision, demonstrating her ability to navigate industry challenges while staying true to her creative instincts.
