The decision follows the submission of a report by the Committee of Inquiry, established under Article 146(6), to investigate a petition filed by a Ghanaian citizen, Mr. Daniel Ofori, seeking the Chief Justice’s removal.
After reviewing the petition, evidence, and witness testimonies, the Committee determined that the allegations of stated misbehaviour under Article 146(1) had been sufficiently substantiated, and therefore recommended her removal from office.
Under Article 146(9), the President is constitutionally required to act in accordance with the Committee’s findings and recommendations.
Announcing the decision in a statement on Monday, September 1, 2025, the Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, emphasized that the removal was carried out strictly within the framework of the law.

He further assured the public that the process adhered to constitutional procedures, adding that both the petitioner and the Chief Justice were given full opportunity to present their cases before the Committee.
