Kennedy Agyapong, former Member of Parliament and presidential hopeful for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has asserted that the recent appreciation of the cedi against the US dollar is only temporary and not the result of any domestic economic expertise.

Speaking at the Entrepreneurship and National Leadership event at Central University on Thursday, May 15, 2025, Agyapong explained:
The cedi’s appreciation is temporary. It is not due to any economic gurus in this country. The global market is simply not demanding the dollar as much as it used to, which means there’s less competition. As a result, the supply of dollars now exceeds demand—it’s as simple as that.”

He further elaborated:
These are basic economic principles. We need to be cautious about narratives surrounding interest rates and similar claims. It’s not some form of magic—the reality is that the global economy is faltering, and demand for the dollar has declined.”
