Captain Planet Backs GHC1 Fuel Levy, Encourages Ghanaians To Comply

Ghanaian musician Captain Planet, formerly of the defunct group 4×4, has expressed his support for the newly implemented GH¢1 Fuel Levy introduced by the John Mahama administration.

In a post on X dated June 4, 2025, Captain Planet—known for his long-standing support of the NPP and the Akufo-Addo government—stated unequivocally that he is willing to pay the GH¢1 levy on petroleum products if it means enjoying stable electricity and a stronger economy.

He emphasized that Ghanaians should prioritize national development over politicizing every issue.

“I paid all these taxes on a single product under the NPP government, so what’s GH¢1 if it will give me stable electricity? Let’s set politics aside and focus on building the nation. I’m saying go and pay—what’s the issue?”

“I’m committed to paying the GH¢1 fuel levy if it means I’ll enjoy stable electricity. We’re building a country here, not supporting a political party. Everyone needs to get involved,” he stated.

Captain Planet also urged Ghanaians to comply with the new levy, just as they did with similar charges under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.

“In the same way we paid all those levies during the NPP era, we should be willing to do the same under the NDC government—for the sake of a better Ghana,” he added.
