Lead counsel, Maurice Appiah-Kubi, has disclosed that Bryan Acheampong provided property documents exceeding the GH₵50 million bail amount required by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to secure the release of Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.

“I’m very grateful to Honourable Bryan Acheampong… He has brought his documents, which go over and above the value of money that is required,” Appiah-Kubi stated.

Wontumi, who was arrested earlier this week, is facing charges related to fraud and money laundering. Although the bail conditions—two sureties justified—have been satisfied, his release has been delayed due to a fresh court application filed by unidentified individuals.

“It is an application that was not filed by my good self… It prohibits us. We’ll deal with it on Monday,” the lawyer explained.

Appiah-Kubi also dismissed circulating reports that Wontumi is on a hunger strike, assuring the public that his client is in stable condition and receiving proper medical care.

The case has drawn considerable political attention, prompting visits from high-ranking New Patriotic Party members, including Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin. Meanwhile, crowds of supporters continue to gather outside EOCO headquarters in solidarity.

Until the newly filed legal challenge is resolved, Chairman Wontumi remains in EOCO custody.
