Bribery Allegations: Barker-Vormawor Apologizes And Promises To Delete His Post

Social activist and lawyer Oliver Barker-Vormawor has issued an apology for his comment, which appeared to suggest that members of the Appointments Committee had taken money from ministerial nominees in exchange for approving them after the vetting process.

Appearing before the Committee on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, after being summoned, Barker-Vormawor clarified that his post was not meant to disrespect or disparage the members of the Committee.

He further assured the Committee of his willingness to remove the post from social media.

“I’m stating clearly here that my post was not meant to disparage the members of the committee, nor did I intend to suggest that members of this committee have received or demanded bribes from individuals. At no point was that my intention, and for that, I apologize,” he explained.

“I am more than happy to take it down, as the conversation has clarified the matter,” he added.

He maintained that his original post had been misinterpreted.

During the proceedings, another post surfaced, alleging that NDC members on the Committee had taken bribes from nominees, which was purportedly written by Barker-Vormawor. However, the private legal practitioner denied authoring the post, insisting that it had originated from an NPP Facebook platform.

“I want to reiterate once again, categorically and for all intents and purposes, that I have never authored those words. All I know about that statement is that it appeared on an NPP projects bureau Facebook account, and I do not know the source of it,” he added.

His post on Friday, January 24, 2025, read: “So all the monies the ministerial appointees are being asked to pay to the Appointments Committee just to get approved, are those ones not affected by ORAL?”

During the vetting on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, the Committee was made aware of the post by the activist, which led to him being summoned before the Appointments Committee.

Vormawor has since apologized to the Committee for his comment.
