Ghanaian artist Black Sherif was unsuccessful in securing the Best International Act award at the 2025 BET Awards, which took place on June 9, 2025. The coveted prize was instead claimed by Nigerian singer and Afrobeat sensation, Ayra Starr.
Ayra Starr emerged victorious against a strong field of nominees that included Black Sherif (Ghana), Any Gabrielly (Brazil), Basky (UK), Ezra Collective (UK), Joé Dwèt Filé (France), MC Luanna (Brazil), Rema (Nigeria), SDM (France), Tyla (South Africa), and Uncle Waffles (Swaziland).

Having been a consistent presence at the BET Awards since 2022, Ayra Starr’s previous nominations include Best New International Act (2022), Best International Act (2023), and the BET Her Award for “Commas” (2024). In addition to her win for Best International Act in 2025, she also received nods for Best New Artist and Best Female R&B/Pop Artist.
The 2025 BET Awards, hosted by Kevin Hart, once again lived up to its reputation as “Culture’s Biggest Night.”
