Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene recently visited the site of the devastating fire at Adum Market in Kumasi, engaging directly with affected traders and pledging comprehensive government support to aid in their recovery. During his visit, Dr. Amoakohene expressed deep concern over the extent of the damage and assured the victims that the government is committed to assisting them in rebuilding their livelihoods.

To prevent future incidents, the Minister announced plans to create vehicular routes and curb unauthorized fire-related activities in areas surrounding Adum PZ. This initiative, set to begin today, aims to improve accessibility and reduce fire risks caused by human activities. Security personnel will be deployed to ensure the smooth implementation of the plan.

In addition to these measures, the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) has pledged support for the affected traders. Acting CEO Abigail Elorm Mensah assured the traders of the government’s commitment to helping them rebuild their businesses, emphasizing that MASLOC will stand with them throughout the recovery process.

The visit also highlighted challenges faced by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS). Dr. Amoakohene expressed frustration upon noticing what he believed to be an empty fire tender at the site, questioning the firefighters about its presence without water. This led to a public exchange, with the GNFS Public Relations Officer, Alex King Nartey, responding that addressing such challenges requires more than verbal reprimands and emphasizing the need for adequate resources.

Despite these challenges, the government’s commitment to supporting the Adum Market fire victims remains steadfast, with coordinated efforts underway to facilitate recovery and implement preventive measures for the future.
