“As Long as God Remains God, A Woman Can Never Lead” – Sonnie Badu
Ghanaian gospel artist, pastor, and life coach Sonnie Badu has sparked widespread debate online with his candid views on marriage, purpose, and leadership within relationships.
In a video shared on his official Instagram account on Saturday, February 14, Badu urged women to be discerning about the men they choose to marry, arguing that a man without vision can significantly hold back a woman’s growth.
He described marriage as deeply spiritual, noting that when a woman chooses to follow a man, spiritual authority passes through him, enabling him to lead.

“If you find a husband with a vision, be careful how you follow. If you find a husband without a vision, pray that he discovers his vision,” he said.
“Because as long as you follow him, God will not hear you; God will hear him.”

Badu explained that a man’s lack of direction or purpose affects not only himself but also the woman who joins her life with his, potentially leading to stagnation if her aspirations are not considered in his plans. Drawing from his experience in marriage counseling, he said he often advises men without a clear purpose not to rush into marriage.

“I ask the husband, ‘Do you have a purpose and a vision? If not, don’t marry. Your wife must live her dreams within your purpose and vision,’” he explained.
He added that if a woman’s dreams do not align with her husband’s vision, the relationship is inherently flawed.
“If your wife and her dreams are not aligned with your purpose and vision, then you are not truly married. You met out of emotions, not destiny,” he said.
On the topic of leadership in marriage, Badu asserted that while women play vital roles, spiritual leadership is biblically assigned to men.
“As long as God remains God, a woman can never lead. It is biblical,” he said.
“But a woman can be the brain that helps a man lead.”
