In a statement signed by the Head of Public Affairs, Gilbert Nii Ankrah, the AMA emphasized that the restriction is meant to uphold peace and respect traditional customs. The directive applies to all individuals and organizations within the Assembly’s jurisdiction, including areas such as Gamashie, Ablekuma West, and parts of Kasoa.
Describing the period as “a sacred time of gravity and spiritual contemplation,” the AMA directed all churches to conduct their services indoors and refrain from using musical instruments. The use of loudspeakers outside places of worship, street preaching, and outdoor celebrations has also been strictly prohibited.
The AMA, in collaboration with traditional authorities and security agencies, will ensure strict enforcement of the directive and has warned that violators will face sanctions.
In anticipation of the annual Homowo festival, the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has declared that this year’s ban on drumming and noise-making will be enforced from today, Monday, May 6th, until Thursday, June 6th, 2024.
