All Six Victims In Ghana Armed Forces Recruitment Tragedy Were Female – Mahama
President John Dramani Mahama has expressed deep sorrow following the tragic deaths of six young women during the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) recruitment exercise at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra.

Speaking at the launch of the Nkoko Nkitinkiti Poultry Initiative in Kumasi on Wednesday, November 12, President Mahama described the incident as “a heartbreaking loss for the entire nation.” He noted that all six victims were female applicants who had gathered at the stadium with hopes of serving their country.
“I have been informed by the military that six young women, who simply wanted to serve their nation, lost their lives in this unfortunate incident,” he said. “We are also praying for the 12 others who are currently in critical condition.”
The President extended his condolences to the bereaved families and wished the injured a speedy recovery. He further called for a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy, stressing the need for stronger safety measures during public recruitment and other national events.

The deadly stampede occurred on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, when thousands of job seekers crowded the El-Wak Sports Stadium for the GAF recruitment exercise.
The Ghana Armed Forces has confirmed the deaths and revealed that several others are receiving treatment at the 37 Military Hospital. The recruitment process has since been suspended pending investigations.
