Akwaboah Slams Hypocrisy Within The Gospel Music Industry
Ghanaian musician Akwaboah Jnr has voiced concerns about perceived double standards within the gospel music industry. He highlighted that while secular artists like Kuami Eugene have received widespread support for their gospel compositions—such as the song written for Joyce Blessing—his own collaboration with the gospel group TY Crew has been largely overlooked by gospel music platforms due to his secular background.
Akwaboah questioned why secular musicians are often labeled as sinners while gospel artists are seen as righteous, challenging the criteria used to make such distinctions. He called for an end to this perceived hypocrisy and urged for greater inclusivity and recognition of artistry, regardless of genre.
This isn’t the first time such concerns have been raised. In 2023, Kofi Donkor, CEO of Dynamics Unlimited, also criticized the gospel music industry for its alleged hypocrisy, particularly regarding collaborations between gospel and secular artists.
The debate continues within the Ghanaian music scene, reflecting broader discussions about the intersection of secular and gospel music.
