Akufo-Addo Ignored Advice, And NPP Paid The Price – Appiah-Kubi
Former Member of Parliament for Asante Akim North, Andy Appiah-Kubi, has asserted that the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) defeat in the 2024 general elections could have been avoided if former President Akufo-Addo had heeded calls to dismiss then-Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.

Appiah-Kubi, a key figure in the #KenMustGo campaign, told GHOne TV: “If former President Akufo-Addo had listened to us MPs and sacked Ken Ofori-Atta, we wouldn’t have lost miserably in the 2024 elections.”
He further revealed that Ofori-Atta wielded significant influence during his time in office so much so that he often defied direct orders from the president.
Speaking in an interview on TV3, Appiah-Kubi stated: “The man was too powerful… even the president would ask him to do something and he’d say ‘la lie’, it won’t happen.”
According to him, Ofori-Atta once claimed credit for the party’s 2020 victory: “He came to our meeting and said, ‘I procured this victory for us.’ That was the first time I stood up and said, ‘My friend, what are you saying? I didn’t see your hands in Asante Akim North.’”
He continued, “It cannot be that you alone claim to have secured victory for the whole party. I didn’t see you in my constituency, so don’t make such claims.”
Appiah-Kubi also shared the personal toll his stance took during the campaign to remove Ofori-Atta: “At a point, my life was in danger. I fell ill during that period, received treatment, and by God’s grace, I survived.”
He concluded that although some may have exaggerated the situation, he genuinely suffered emotional and physical distress during that time.
