Court Remands Adu-Boahene In EOCO Custody For 7 Days
An Accra High Court has remanded the former head of the National Signals Bureau, Kwabena Adu-Boahene, into the custody of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) for seven working days. The decision aims to give the Attorney General’s office sufficient time to complete the preparation of its witness statements.
The case has been adjourned to May 13 for further directions.
At the previous hearing, the court was scheduled to consider submissions—held in camera—regarding whether the first accused should continue on existing bail terms. While counsel for all accused persons requested that bail conditions remain unchanged, the Attorney General opposed continued bail for Adu-Boahene, citing alleged interference with prosecution witnesses.
Following closed-door submissions, the court sided with the prosecution and ruled that Adu-Boahene remain in EOCO custody for the stated period to ensure witness statement preparation is completed without obstruction.
Lead counsel for the accused, Atta Akyea, requested that the seven-day period include weekends, but the judge declined, explaining that the Attorney General’s office does not operate on weekends. Deputy Attorney General Srem Sai also objected to the request.
The judge clarified that the purpose of the remand is to allow adequate time for the state to coordinate with a key witness currently outside the jurisdiction—not necessarily to insist on seven working days.
Accused of meddling with a witness, Former NSB boss, Kwabena Adu-Boahene will now spend a full week in EOCO custody.
