Former Bekwai MP Joseph Osei-Owusu has shed light on a critical finding from the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) internal post-election report, revealing that over two million voters from the party’s strongholds chose not to participate in the recent general election.

Speaking on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News, Osei-Owusu noted that this silence from the party’s traditional base carried a powerful message the NPP can no longer afford to ignore.

“The report shows that a little over two million people around our stronghold did not go out to vote. They also told us a story,” he remarked.

He acknowledged that the voter disengagement served as a sobering reflection of dissatisfaction within the party’s core base.

“They made us look at what we did wrong… Things we said, things we overlooked, things we ought to have known, things we ought not to have done, but we did,” he admitted.

Osei-Owusu emphasized the need for the party to move beyond electoral victories and focus on reconnecting with disenchanted supporters. He advocated for meaningful engagement, introspection, and a renewed commitment to grassroots accountability.

“It is appropriate that we go round to thank them. The thank you tour is not only for those who have won,” he said, urging the party to prioritize reconciliation and healing as a first step forward.

Joseph Osei Owusu, the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, has reaffirmed his support for the shooting and killing of illegal miners, particularly those mining in our water sources. He referred to them as terrible people and mass murderers who should face the consequences. During an interview with Asaasepa 107.3FM, the Bekwai MP bemoaned that these illegal miners have devastated various water bodies across the country for their own selfish and personal gain. He stated that if he had the power, he would have examined the law to ensure that such individuals are dealt with harshly and without mercy.
