YEA Boss Malik Basintale Vows To Scrap ‘Unjust’ Zoomlion Contract, Calls It Evil
The Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), Malik Basintale, has harshly criticized the current agreement between the agency and sanitation contractor Zoomlion Ghana Limited, labeling it as “evil” and pledging not to renew it in its existing form.
In a statement shared on his official Facebook page on Wednesday, Basintale described the deal as deeply exploitative and unfair to the Ghanaian youth employed under the sanitation module. He expressed disbelief that for over seven years, the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration maintained a contract under which workers were paid just GH¢250 out of a GH¢850 monthly allocation—while Zoomlion retained the remaining GH¢600 as management fees.
“For 7 years and 9 months, the NPP continued the Zoomlion contract in its current state, giving Ghanaian youth only GH¢250,” he wrote. “This is EVIL, and I WILL END IT.”
Basintale, who was appointed by President John Dramani Mahama’s administration, emphasized that the YEA is committed to realigning its operations with the President’s vision—focusing on fairness, equity, and improved working conditions.
“President Mahama came to restore balance and progress. That includes ensuring every Ghanaian worker receives fair compensation,” he added.

The YEA boss also made a heartfelt appeal, highlighting the personal impact of such an arrangement.
“If my own mother, brother, or sister were a Zoomlion worker, I’d be unhappy with them receiving GH¢250. So how can I accept that your mother, father, or sibling earns the same?” he said.
To encourage public participation and transparency, Basintale announced a live online session scheduled for 8 PM tonight, where he will address public concerns and outline plans for the future of sanitation employment under the YEA.
“Change began on December 7th, and that change must continue,” Basintale concluded. “We owe it to the people not to fail them.”
