Legendary Singer Roberta Flack, Voice Of ‘Killing Me Softly,’ Dies At 88
Roberta Flack, the veteran R&B singer renowned for her soulful hits “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face” and “Killing Me Softly With His Song,” passed away on February 24, 2025, at the age of 88. She died peacefully at home, surrounded by family.
Born on February 10, 1937, in Black Mountain, North Carolina, Flack’s musical journey began with classical piano training, which later influenced her unique fusion of soul, jazz, and folk genres. She gained international acclaim in the 1970s, with her rendition of “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face” earning her a Grammy Award for Record of the Year in 1973, followed by the same accolade in 1974 for “Killing Me Softly With His Song.”
