Death upon laying its icy hands on the late talented and exceptional footballer christian Atsu, in the recent Turkey-Syria Earthquake which claimed many lives, has left an indelible mark in the hearts of Ghanaians and the world at large. Owing to that, there has been preparations towards the burial rites of the footballer and as such the one week celebration has been slated for the 4th of March, 2023.
The bereaved family of the late footballer have received both physical and emotional consolation from Ghanaians and beyond. During the arrival ceremony of the body of the late legend held in Ghana, the vice president of Ghana DR. Bawumia stated emphatically that the state was going to be deeply involved in the burial rites for the footballer.
The President of Ghana His Excellency Nana Akuffo Addo, has reiterated and affirmed the statement made by the vice president during the visit of the bereaved family to the Jubilee House Accra on the 27th of February 2023. He further made it clear to them that, the state and government will be offer a State-assisted funeral to the footballer and as such all decisions taken concerning the funeral rites should be made known to them as he would like to be present in person to show his last respect.

President Akufo-Addo stated during the meeting that the government will support the date and any other funeral decisions made by the family.
President Akufo-Addo stated that he has directed the head of staff in the President’s office, Madam Akosua Frema Osei Opare, to coordinate with the family, the Ghana Football Association (GFA), and the Ministry of Youth and Sports to ensure that the government’s decision is carried out.
“Our responsibility is to give you as much support as we can. We can never erase the loss of this very brilliant man, but there it is. I always console myself with the fact that, at the end of the day, no matter the circumstances, the Almighty will call each one of us one by one, and perhaps, that was his [Christian Atsu] destiny that he is called in this tragic way,” President Akufo-Addo said.
“The Ghanaian people must express their appreciation for the work that he did for our nation and the contribution he made to the development of the game and to the development of sports in general.
Christian Atsu’s body continues to remain in the morgue till funeral rites are performed.
