Gov’t Raises Minimum Wage to GH¢21.77 from January 1, 2026 The National Tripartite Committee (NTC) has approved a 9% increase in Ghana’s National Daily Minimum Wage (NDMW) for 2026, raising the rate to GH₵21.77 from the 2025 figure. The new rate was agreed upon after extensive negotiations held on Sunday, November 9, 2025, in Accra. According to the Committee, the adjustment aims to balance current economic conditions with the need to protect workers’ welfare and keep businesses sustainable. In a joint communiqué, the NTC said: “In determining the 2026 NDMW, the Committee considered the prevailing economic environment, cost of living, business sustainability, and the goal of achieving higher employment levels.” The Committee confirmed that the revised minimum wage will take effect on January 1, 2026. It directed all establishments, institutions, and organisations paying below the new rate to adjust accordingly. The communiqué also warned that any employer who fails to comply will face sanctions as provided by law. Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, Hon. Dr. Abdul-Rashid Pelpuo, noted that the increment demonstrates government’s commitment to protecting workers while supporting business stability. “This review reflects our responsibility to ensure wages that are fair and aligned with the cost of living,” he said. Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson added that the government remains focused on balancing social welfare with fiscal discipline. “We want this adjustment to support workers without jeopardizing macroeconomic stability,” he explained.Gov’t Raises Minimum Wage To GH¢21.77 From January 1, 2026
