Gospel And Secular Artistes Deserve Equal Pay For Performances – Piesie Esther
Ghanaian gospel star Piesie Esther has raised concerns about the wide pay gap between gospel and secular musicians in Ghana, calling for equal treatment and respect for both genres.
In an interview with Eddie Ray on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM’s Midmorning Show, the “Wayɛ Me Yie” hitmaker revealed that secular artists are often paid far more for performances than their gospel counterparts.

“It’s a fact that gospel musicians are paid less compared to secular artists,” she said. “I don’t know why that is so, but it’s my prayer that one day, this disparity will be addressed.”
Piesie Esther further explained that if she were billed on the same show as Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy, or Kuami Eugene, she would not receive the same performance fee a reality she believes the industry must acknowledge.

She also defended gospel musicians who perform at events hosted by secular acts, such as ShattaFest, describing it as an opportunity for evangelism rather than compromise.
“There’s nothing wrong if a gospel musician is invited to perform on a dancehall stage,” she said. “It can be a moment for ministry — who knows, God might use that opportunity to change a life.”

Piesie Esther concluded by urging event organizers and promoters to value gospel artists equally, emphasizing that both gospel and secular performers invest the same level of effort, creativity, and passion into their craft.
