The plan aims to cut out middlemen and reduce high commission fees, ensuring that creators retain a greater share of their income from TikTok gifts and other monetisation streams. Under the proposed framework, GCB Bank would leverage its financial infrastructure to process direct transfers into bank accounts, mobile money wallets, and Visa or MasterCard debit cards.
A delegation led by GCB’s Chief of Staff, Abraham Ferguson, presented the proposal to the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George. The Minister welcomed the initiative, describing it as “a positive step for Ghana’s creative and digital sectors.”

Meanwhile, TikTok’s West Africa representative, Ms. Tokumbo Ibrahim, confirmed that the company is reviewing the proposal, adding that TikTok is open to “solutions that meet regulatory standards while enhancing the creator experience.”
If approved, technical teams from both GCB and TikTok will begin the integration process, working closely with Ghana’s financial regulators to establish a secure and transparent system for creator payouts.
