It’s Very Wrong To Force People Into Marriage – Gospel Singer Selina Boateng
Ghanaian gospel singer Selina Boateng has spoken out against the societal pressure placed on individuals to marry, warning that such expectations often push people into unions they are not emotionally or mentally ready for.

In an interview with Accra-based Okay FM, the award-winning singer stressed that marriage requires a great deal of maturity, especially when it comes to handling challenges between partners.
She explained that many enter into marriage unprepared for difficult situations such as dealing with a nagging spouse, an abusive partner, or someone struggling with alcoholism. “It takes very matured people to deal with some of these things in marriage,” she said.

According to Selina, those who pressure others into marriage are sometimes the very people enduring unhappy unions themselves. She revealed that such individuals often mask their struggles while encouraging others to rush into marriage.
Her comments come after she recently disclosed that her six-year marriage had ended in divorce. She explained that questions about her marital status no longer weigh her down since she is now single. She further stated that she would never change her name for the sake of marriage again and sees no shame in being a divorcee.
“Behind closed doors, many in ministry regret their marriages,” she pointed out.
Selina also shared that she does not feel stigmatized as a gospel artiste for leaving her marriage. Instead, she revealed that she already has admirers showing interest. “My line is choked… I have suitors. I am ready. As to whether I will marry a pastor again, only time and God will tell,” she said with a smile.

She urged young people to avoid rushing into marriage because of societal pressure. Instead, she advised them to carefully evaluate themselves and their partners before making a lifelong commitment. According to her, many people hide their true character before marriage, and certain behaviors cannot be changed afterward.
“Be very vigilant… God has given us free will, use it wisely,” she advised.
Selina Boateng married Isaac Berchie on December 7, 2019, at the Church of Pentecost (Magazine) Maakro Central in Kumasi.
