Speaking at the Government Accountability Series in Accra on Monday, July 21, Dr. Boamah explained that the initiative aims to strengthen the operational capacity of the Armed Forces while supporting national goals in industrialisation and food security.

“I am pleased to announce, in line with the vision of the Commander-in-Chief, that a large-scale enlistment and recruitment exercise will be launched to boost the manpower of the Ghana Armed Forces,” he said. “In total, we aim to recruit 12,000 personnel over the next three and a half years.”

Dr. Boamah added that future recruitment phases will prioritise candidates with specialised qualifications in areas such as agricultural extension, engineering, biochemistry, and skilled trades, to align with the evolving operational needs of the GAF and national development efforts.

He also addressed the issue of over 2,000 qualified applicants who were not enlisted during the previous administration, despite the availability of space at the Army Recruit Training School.

“To those individuals, I say: reapply if you still meet the criteria, you are strongly encouraged to try again,” he stated. “And for those who may not qualify at this time, do not lose hope.”

The recruitment drive is expected to enhance national security, expand employment opportunities for young people, and align military capacity with Ghana’s long-term development priorities.
