Gov’t Pays GH₵462M To Nursing Trainees, Fulfilling Mahama’s Promise
The Ministry of Health has confirmed the disbursement of GH₵462 million to support training allowances for 120,000 nursing students across the country.

The payment, which covers a six-month period, fulfills a major campaign promise by President John Dramani Mahama and reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening the health sector.
In a press release dated Thursday, July 17, the Ministry noted that the initiative forms part of broader efforts to provide financial support to students in Nurses Training Colleges.
“The allowance was a key commitment made by His Excellency John Dramani Mahama during the recent campaign and has now been honored,” the statement read. Payments began on Wednesday and are scheduled to continue through next Friday.

The Ministry described the initiative as a crucial step toward improving the welfare of nursing trainees and encouraging the next generation of healthcare professionals.
“This intervention will help sustain the motivation of nursing students and aligns with our ongoing agenda to enhance the health sector by supporting critical human resources during their training,” the release added.
The Ministry also extended its gratitude to President Mahama and all stakeholders who contributed to the timely release and distribution of the funds.
