Dr. Hannah Bissiw, CEO of the Minerals Development Fund and Women’s Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has stated emphatically that she feels no sympathy for former MP Hawa Koomson, following reports of Koomson’s alleged assault during the Ablekuma North election rerun on July 11, 2025.

While monitoring the polls at Odorkor Methodist 1, Dr. Bissiw recalled being physically attacked during the 2019 Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election, which she claims was orchestrated by Hawa Koomson.

“She brought about 30 thugs to attack me. I was beaten. The police had to put me in their car, and even then, they chased us. My seatbelt saved me from falling out of the moving vehicle,” she recounted.

Though she condemned all electoral violence, Dr. Bissiw made it clear she would not sympathize with Koomson.

“Don’t ask me to feel sorry for Hawa Koomson. I will be lying before you and God. I don’t feel sorry one bit.”

She also referenced past incidents involving Koomson, including the Kasoa shooting, and questioned whether she deserved the violence she suffered back then.

“Ask her about the slaps, the shooting, and the people who died. If I deserved what happened to me, then she deserves this even more,” Bissiw stated.

Dr. Bissiw firmly rejected any claims that the NDC was behind the attack, saying:

“Let nobody point fingers at the NDC. We didn’t do it.”

Her remarks add a personal dimension to the ongoing conversation about political violence, raising deeper questions about justice, accountability, and empathy in Ghana’s electoral politics.
