Uniformed Police Officer Assaults Journalist At Ablekuma North Re-Run
A journalist covering the Ablekuma North parliamentary re-election has alleged that a uniformed police officer assaulted him at the Church of Pentecost Polling Station 2 in North Odorkor, raising fresh concerns about press freedom and the treatment of media workers at electoral events.

In a video seen online, the visibly shaken reporter recounted that the officer approached him, ordered him to leave the premises, and then physically assaulted him when he refused.
“I don’t know the officer’s name, but he told me to leave even though other journalists were present. When I explained I was there to do my job, he slapped me and pushed me. I’ve done nothing wrong,” he said.
Expressing deep frustration, the reporter added, “Where is the press freedom? Look at the slap! I feel intimidated and disappointed.”
Senior officers on the scene reportedly advised the journalist to lodge a formal complaint with the Accra Regional Police Command, which he intends to pursue.

The alleged assault has sparked strong reactions from media professionals and press freedom advocates, who are demanding a full investigation and disciplinary action against the officer involved. The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) is also expected to release a statement on the matter.
This incident has reignited long-standing concerns about the safety and independence of journalists covering elections and political events in Ghana an issue press advocates say must be addressed with urgency to uphold democratic transparency and accountability.
