July 13 Declared Nationwide ‘Dumsor’ Day – Energy Ministry
Energy and Green Transition Minister, John Abdulai Jinapor, has announced that Ghana will experience a nationwide power outage on Sunday, July 13, due to scheduled maintenance on key gas supply infrastructure.

The outage stems from rehabilitation work by ENI, the country’s gas supplier, aimed at increasing gas production to 270 million standard cubic feet (MMscf). “This Sunday, ENI will temporarily shut their valves to boost gas output. While it’s a short disruption, it’s necessary to stabilise the energy sector,” Jinapor explained.

He added that the government will not switch to liquid fuel during the brief downtime, following expert advice that the transition would be technically risky and unnecessary for a short window. “It involves changing nozzles and a lot of technical adjustments. For a four to six-hour shutdown, it’s not worth the risk,” he stated.
The minister assured Ghanaians that every effort will be made to minimise the impact of the temporary outage.
