If You Have A Protruding Stomach, You’re Sick — Dominic Nitiwul
Mr. Dominic Nitiwul, former Minister of Defence and Member of Parliament for Bimbilla, has raised concerns about the health of lawmakers and Ghanaians in general, emphasizing the importance of paying close attention to daily dietary habits.

Speaking during a parliamentary debate on Wednesday, following the presentation of the Fisheries and Aquaculture Bill, 2025, Mr. Nitiwul advised the public to avoid consuming fatty foods, warning that such diets are detrimental to good health.

“If you have a protruding stomach, it’s a sign of illness caused by fat accumulation. So, it’s important to be mindful of what you eat and take your health seriously,” he stated.
He was quick to clarify, however, that his remarks were not meant to suggest that all overweight individuals are unhealthy.
In response, Mr. Bernard Ahiafor, MP for Akatsi South and First Deputy Speaker who was presiding over proceedings humorously referred to the remarks as the “Nitiwul theory,” drawing laughter from both sides of the House.
Meanwhile, Madam Emelia Arthur, Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, appealed to Parliament to support the bill. She explained that its passage would enhance the sustainable use of the country’s fisheries resources and promote the long-term management and conservation of marine ecosystems.
She added that the legislation would also help Ghana avoid the “yellow card” penalty currently imposed on its fishery products by the European Union.
