The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has set a deadline of June 2, 2025, for former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta to appear before it.

According to the OSP, failure to comply will result in Mr. Ofori-Atta being declared a wanted person. A statement released on March 17, 2025, warned that should he be deemed a fugitive from justice, the office would issue an Interpol Red Notice and initiate extradition proceedings from any jurisdiction in which he is found.

His legal team responded, indicating that Mr. Ofori-Atta was abroad for medical treatment and proposed to represent him in his absence. However, the OSP rejected this request, insisting on a definitive return date by February 10, 2025, and threatened legal consequences if the condition was not met.

Sources say Mr. Ofori-Atta, who is reportedly receiving treatment outside Ghana, has expressed willingness to meet with the OSP virtually due to health-related constraints. His lawyers have reportedly communicated with the OSP about his medical condition and the necessity of undergoing certain procedures.

The investigations into Mr. Ofori-Atta involve five key areas:

  1. Petroleum and Minerals Revenue Assurance – Concerns over contractual agreements between Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).

  2. Electricity Company Contract Termination – The cancellation of a contract between the Electricity Company of Ghana and Beijing Xiao Cheng Technology (BXC).

  3. National Cathedral Project – Scrutiny of procurement processes and financial dealings related to the National Cathedral.

  4. Ambulance Procurement – Issues surrounding a Ministry of Health contract with Service Ghana Auto Group Limited for the acquisition and servicing of 307 ambulances.

  5. GRA Tax P-Fund Management – The management and disbursement of funds from the GRA’s Tax P-Fund Account.
