During an interview on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News on Thursday, May 15, Minister for Energy and Green Transitions, John Jinapor, acknowledged that the reported 2.6-day fuel reserve figure was accurate. However, he reassured the public that measures are in place to avert any potential energy crisis.

“Regarding fuel stock, we did confirm that there are currently 2.6 days of reserves,” Jinapor stated. “But I also mentioned that, thankfully, the Ministry of Finance has supported us—we’ve secured 450,000 barrels of light crude oil, which will arrive this weekend.”

He added, “So yes, we have 2.6 days of fuel, but the good news is the incoming 450,000 barrels. There’s no need to panic—we’ll be fine.”

His remarks followed growing public anxiety fueled by rumors of an impending power crisis, especially as several areas have recently experienced intermittent blackouts.

Jinapor, however, dismissed fears of a looming crisis, assuring that the incoming fuel shipment would stabilize the supply and allow the energy sector to operate smoothly.

“There is no impending power crisis,” he affirmed.
