A 21-year-old mobile money (MoMo) vendor, Desmond Adzah, was tragically shot and killed by suspected armed robbers at Quarters Junction, a community within Ngleshie Amanfro in the Ga South Municipality.

The incident occurred around 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 9, as Desmond was on his way home from work.

According to a report by Adom News, unidentified gunmen ambushed and shot Desmond multiple times. He was rushed to the Ngleshie Amanfro Polyclinic but sadly passed away while receiving treatment.

Eyewitness Ruben Kumor shared that he had spoken with Desmond shortly before the shooting.

“Desmond is well-known here. Everyone depends on him for mobile money services. I saw him just after he closed for the day and asked to withdraw GHC150, but he told me he was out of cash,” he recalled.

“On my way back to the office to get money, I heard a gunshot. A woman nearby wanted to go and check, but children stopped her. Soon after, someone told me Desmond had been shot,” Kumor added.

Despite the presence of a nearby police station, Kumor raised concerns about the lack of nighttime patrols.

“There’s a station close by, but we barely see police patrolling at night. Even assigning community police what we call ‘baby police’ would make a difference. Desmond was attacked right after closing shop. This should not have happened,” he lamented.

Desmond’s sister, Erica Adzah, believes her brother was deliberately targeted by individuals familiar to him.

“This wasn’t a random attack. Based on what we’re hearing, Desmond was followed and likely knew his attackers. Some even suspect they were friends of his. After shooting him and taking his bag, they killed him because he recognized them,” she claimed.

She added that Desmond attempted to flee to their nearby family home, but the sound of gunshots forced relatives to stay indoors.

“This case must be taken seriously. Crimes involving motorcycles are on the rise. The government must act swiftly to protect innocent citizens,” she urged.

The bereaved family and concerned residents are demanding immediate police action, a comprehensive investigation into the murder, and improved security measures to prevent future occurrences.
