₵50M Bail For Wontumi Is A Political Trap – NPP’s Justin Kodua Accuses EOCO
NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong has sharply condemned the GH₵50 million bail imposed on Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, describing it as “ridiculous” and politically motivated.
Addressing a crowd of energized party supporters outside the EOCO headquarters, Frimpong did not mince words.
“This ₵50 million bail? It’s not justice—it’s a trap,” he declared. “They just want to keep Chairman Wontumi locked up. It’s abuse of power, plain and simple.”
Frimpong accused the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) of weaponizing state institutions like EOCO and the police to suppress NPP leaders.
“Have you ever seen anything like this before?” he asked. “We all know what’s going on. The NDC is using EOCO and the police to intimidate us. But let me remind them—power is not permanent.”
He went on to issue a strong warning to the NDC, stating that any future NPP administration would not forget how its members are being treated.

“If you use power to torment your opponents today, don’t complain tomorrow when the tables turn,” Frimpong said. “Even if it takes us eight years to return, we’ll remember this. We’ll do to you what you’re doing to us now.”
“That GH¢50 Million bail bond they’re talking about is not something we will bring today or tomorrow.”
